This is a very simple tutorial that I wanted to get out in time for Back To School. This shows you a simple way to make a magnetic bookmark which is great because if you drop your book, you’re not losing your page, the bookmark will stay in place! It’s also great because you can customize the look of it and its super simple for kids to make.
Okay so here are the supplies you will need:

Supplies

  • Paper Cutter/Scissors
  • Small Magnets
  • Stock Paper

Next you want to cut  a strip from your stock paper, the size is totally up to you. I prefer using paper cutters for this sort of thing because I love the perfectly straight edges you get but scissors work fine as well. Utility knives also work well for this if you use a ruler to get a straight edge and then cut along the ruler edge.
Now fold over the top of the bookmark about a couple inches down like this:
Lastly, attach your magnets! I personally prefer to use the ones that already have a sticky backing so I can just stick them right on and not mess with any glue but of course glue will work just as well.  Flip up the folded flap of your book mark, on that underside you want to place the first magnet in the middle. You will also need to add a magnet to the longer side of the bookmark and you want the magnets to match up perfectly obviously and the easiest way to do this is by letting your next magnet, magnetize itself to the first one, so the sticky end of that magnet is facing you,  not the magnet! Then fold the flap back over and press firmly so that the sticky end of the last magnet you have added, gets pressed against the longer side of the bookmark. After that’s said and done it should look like this:

And the end result:
